Day 6 of the #supersymmetry #yogachallenge is an #eggshapedheadstand ( #headstand). Yikes this is very asymmetrical. I am feeling worse than yesterday, but regardless I had many takes on this inverted pose because I am no quitter. 😂😭 Tomorrow is the last day of the challenge and #noexcuses I want to see it all the way through. So here is the best I’ve got for now 😊💕. 🎁📆🎡Day 2️⃣1️⃣ of #AYearOfYoga2018 with cyogalab 🔀 #VrschikasanaI or #Scorpion in #ForearmBalance 🎡📆🎁 Okay, okay, I know this isn’t a beginner variation, but most (myself included) tend to approach this forearm version A LOT sooner than in #handstand, even with the wall. The feeling is so different between the two that I thought it would be valuable to offer some specific guidance here, rather than post a more tangentially related variation. By all means, use the wall if you need it here – eventually, work on getting farther and farther away so you don’t depend on it as much. . Warm up for a deep backbend – back-body engagement, lateral stretches, some half binds, stretched out hip flexors/quads/abdominal wall, and chest/shoulder opening. I personally recommend a round or two of #LungingWarrior holds to really get you warm. . Grab your biceps, set your foundation and kick or press up into your #PinchaMayurasana. Tip: if you find your elbows splay, try strapping your upper arms in shoulders’-width apart. Once you're up, begin to project your straight legs overhead, reaching through your toes and sinking your chest forwards with each exhale. The longer you keep your legs straight and reaching, the deeper the backbend if you spot your toes in your peripheral vision, you’re almost certainly getting those feet to your head! . This is a tough one – some will get their feet down much faster than others for no reason other than an accident of genetics. However, each time you unroll your mat and try, it counts, and it makes a difference… even if it’s hard to see sometimes. So snap a photo now, keep it for the future, add this to your regular practice, and let’s see what kind of progress we can make with our persistence! . 📸 : kerryjones12

🎡📆🎁 Day 2️⃣1️⃣ of #AYearOfYoga2018 🔀 #Handstand #Scorpion or #VrschikasanaII 🎁📆🎡 This pose is a milestone. It’s challenging both because of the balancing element and the flexibility one. Depending on what you need to work on (flexibility, strength or both), you might want to do different asanas to prep for this. First, feel free to take this up against a wall but, if that also doesn’t help you because of wrist/shoulder issues or if you prefer to focus more on the flexibility, take it down into #ForearmBalance and practice there. Warm up thoroughly your spine because, for most people, the balancing element is so challenging, that you need to be very opened in order to have a shot at touching the head. It’s great if you can get an adjustment and have someone help you connect toes and crown but, for me, the way to really get ahead in this one, is to do it on your own so, #practice with a wall, in front of a sofa or, my favorite, place a thick cushion (in case you go over) and start handstanding, catching your balance and working on extending the legs and arching the upper spine for a few, long breaths. Remember to spend most of them ‘prepping’ so: find the balance as the legs go over, feel the palms firmly grounded, lengthen the flexors, move the gaze out, sink the chest and, in the last couple of them, watch from the corner of your eyes, how the toes come meet the head. Don’t ‘tilt’ the ribcage at this moment (LOTS of people do that unconsciously, specially when they’re close to touching the head!) because, unless your #handstands are incredibly solid, you’ll likely fall right out.
