iqphysique96 - There is a difference between your metabolism changing so dieting is harder and dieting so that you make it impossible to lose weight entirely. I speak about this in almost every post, but I must keep restating it because people struggle to truly grasp the concept of energy balance: You consume calories from food and subsequently burn calories to sustain life and fuel any activity. When you burn more calories than you consume, you are in a calorie deficit and will lose weight. 🔥 🔥 When you successfully diet, you lose both body mass and reduce the calories you consume. These 2 things affect your energy expenditure in many ways. They cause your resting metabolic rate (RMR) AKA your metabolism to slightly decrease over time. They also cause your non-exercise activity (NEAT), including spontaneous activity like fidgeting, to decrease. Well both these things reduce your energy expenditure and thus make it harder to be in a calorie deficit. 🔥 🔥 Not only that, but dieting causes a loss of adipose tissue AKA fat. Believe it or not, fat secretes a hormone called leptin which has implications in increasing your metabolism and making you feel full. Since you lose fat, you secrete less leptin. On the other hand, a hormone called ghrelin increases which makes you even hungrier. The combined effects cause you to be hungrier and possibly eat more if you do not have a way of tracking your calorie intake. 🔥 🔥 Many say that dieting will completely damage your metabolism and you need to eat MORE to lose weight. This is misguided but has a tad bit of good intentions. If you drastically cut calories, then these metabolic adaptations will happen even faster!
