Has an injury or ache/pain ever derailed your progress? - If so, that’s a shame because it shouldn’t have to. Not in most cases at least. - Throughout my “career” in the gym, I’ve banged myself up more times than I can count. On top of a pretty reckless sports career that left my body completely achy and out of alignment, I also did the heavy lifting thing. - Knees, low back, shoulder pain and overall lack of mobility. - What fixed it? Going to the clinic and sitting there while they had me hold ice on it? - Doing the same packaged exercise they seem to give everyone with a shoulder issue? - Not to say physical therapy, chiro, osteopathy and other professions under the rehab umbrella are useless. Not at all. - My point is the ones solving problems that others struggle with are relying on an education on movement. - More clinicians are incorporating “strength training” into their treatment plans as they progress clients closer and closer to full health. - Another thing we know, exercise that doesn’t hurt is proven to be helpful for pain. So stop doing stuff that hurts. - A lot of the stuff that bugs shoulders is related to doing too much pushing instead of pulling. - It could be related to pressing overhead when you don’t have the mobility or core stability to do so properly without ANY weight. - Maybe it’s getting into other positions that your shoulders aren’t currently in a position to handle, even when it seems unrelated, like with back squats. - Maybe it’s actually a problem more related to your core. - Getting confused? I get it. - Here: - 1. Stop what hurts 2. Focus on pulling exercises, those should be fine. If not, refer to #1 and try others 3. Switch your grips, that can change things quickly. 4. Obviously train the rest of your body 5. Push ups and landmine presses when performed properly may substitute well over bench presses 6. Aim to train for 8-12 weeks painless before trying, lightly hurt before 7. Consider seeing a clinician - Whatever you do, train around it, and don’t force yourself into pain. . . Anymore questions? 💥Bands for fascial sheering💥 . A good rule of thumb when working soft tissue is starting shallow and working deeper. Many times, by decompressing or sheering the superficial fascial layers, you will eliminate a lot of tension that may not be treated by deeper work. . Larger loop bands can really help out with this. By gripping the skin and adding some active range of motion, you can also restore some good relative motion between the tissue layers. . Areas of high fascial traffic that are good for this kind of work is: . 1️⃣The low back 2️⃣The T/L junction 3️⃣The top of the shoulder and CT junction. .
