As you know, I’m always seeking to learn about the field of #nutrition and #wellness, and I’m particularly fascinated by the solid research and science emerging behind #lowcarb #highfat eating. Every day I’m affirmed even more that the “fat is dangerous” message we’ve heard for decades has steered us so very wrong. Here is an awesome analogy that clicked with me today! Prescribing #insulin to an #insulinresistant or #diabetic patient is the standard of care… and in theory, it makes sense, right? Because insulin helps get the sugar out of their blood and we know that high levels of sugar in the blood are quite toxic and damaging. But think about it this way… If somebody comes to you saying, “I drink 10 beers a day and I can’t get #drunk anymore.” Do you tell that person, “Let’s increase your #beer to 11 or 12 per day and see if brings your sensitivity back”? No. 🙅🏻‍♀️ The advice that makes sense is to have them lay off the #alcohol for a few months, and then down the road when they re-introduce a few beers, they’ll notice their sensitivity has returned. The same goes for an individual who has developed insulin resistance. The answer is to lay off dietary carbs, incorporate some #fasting, shift them towards fats and proteins and limit/avoid the carbs that are causing this problem in the first place, and allow their sensitivity to return! The belief in medicine that “an individual gets fat and therefore develops diabetes” is a bit backwards... overdoing it on dietary carbs for too long leads to insulin resistance, hormone imbalance, and metabolic syndrome. #facetofacefriday 🦋 Down 40lbs+ between these selfies. Through my journey in spiritual wellness, I’ve known for awhile that happiness is created within, that I could be the happiest most joyful version of myself that I wanted to be with a switch in perspective and a positive mindset. I want to be clear, I wasn’t unhappy in the first picture. The smile is genuine. However, I wasn’t enjoying the abundant blessings that come with a healthy body, I wasn’t treating my body with respect, and I wasn’t honoring it with better nutrition. There's no bread in our house, no cereal, no pasta, no rice. My kids don't wake up hungry because they don't eat sugar and high carb foods.
