If I can inspire one person to believe in themselves , believe they are truly worthy of everything they desire, and to believe that inside them is the warrior and champion they’ve has always wanted to be, then I shall have done my job I got into personal training because I loved to move, lift and run. I wanted to spend all my time in the gym, and it seemed like the perfect job for that. Now that I do spend all my time there, work has become so much more than that. Everyday I see my client’s struggles and successes, and they let me be a part of of their journeys. Not only do I help, educate and support them, but they inspire and teach me. And it is from this, that I have realised that my job is all about building human connections, and sharing life with one another, not just working out It’s easy being a PT counting reps and measuring weight. WHAT LOUD SNORING CAN TELL YOU ABOUT HEART HEALTH #HeartHealth NO this is not Homer Simpson’s heart you guys! This is what the heart of a morbidly obese adult male looks like after decades of unhealthy eating & lack of exercise. Excess layers of adipose tissue are clearly visible here. When a morbidly obese patient (BMI >30 kg/m2) sleeps on his/her back, visceral (gut) fat on their central abdomen presses down on their lower lungs - causing them to snore! This extra weight on the abdomen makes it much more difficult to push air out through the glottis - a classic reason why most obese patients snore at night! As it requires MORE effort to breathe against this weight, these patients will breathe in LESS oxygen & breath out LESS carbon dioxide throughout the night (hypoventilation) in comparison to a normal healthy adult. This phenomenon is a major cause of nocturnal hypoxia (less oxygen delivered to all organs during sleep) resulting in a drop in blood pH (making it more acidic) & inherently increasing the propensity of acquiring conditions such as systemic/pulmonary hypertension, heart arrhythmias & sudden death. Thankfully, this condition can be improved/ avoided with a proper diet & exercise regiment!
