A Very moving journey from a Another Shero that was willing to share for this T1NSTRONG initiative. • nnzingat Is what we want you to think of when you think STRENGTH! • “November 14, 2016 I was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer. I remember going to the infirmary at my university because I had been feeling a lump for some months & finally decided to check in on it. They immediately sent me to the hospital to do a workup. • Several doctors & nurses kept coming in & out, asking how old I was & if BC ran in my family-not saying much after my answers. That was the scariest day because I just knew it was going to be cancer. I remember crying my heart out while getting the biopsy. I held the news to myself for a little over a week & ended up telling my family through a text message because once I couldn’t bring myself to say it out loud-I still can’t. • 12/1/16, I started chemo & completed it 5/5/16, the week before graduation with my Masters in Engineering. I continued school because I wouldn’t let cancer stop me from living. I was extremely tired every day, & experienced hot flashes every 30 mins, but I pushed through like so many other pink warriors do. Outside of my immediate family & close friends, I didn’t really tell anyone or talk about my diagnosis, I felt embarrassed. • 6/27/17, I had a radical mastectomy on my left breast-no reconstruction. Having one breast was definitely the most insecure part of this journey. This decision was made by my team of doctors because I would have to undergo 12 rounds of radiation, which I had every morning before work & completed 9/27/17. • So for 9 months, I battled this journey while trying to maintain a normal life by continuing to travel, work, complete school & simply just live life. • Since treatments ended last year I’ve been more involved in church, growing my faith. I recently had my reconstruction surgery, where I elected to remove my right breast as well & get 2 new ones formed from my body fat. I feel good about my journey now, simply because I’m alive. “
