lostwithpurpose Over bowls of kulfi falooda one cloudy afternoon in Lahore, I learned that musafirintransit had never been to the Wazir Khan mosque despite being a Lahori. I couldn't believe my ears. Wazir Khan is one of the Walled City's most famous buildings, and certainly its most decorated. Obviously we had to go. Let's go to the walled city right now, I suggested. The weather is perfect for wandering. Within minutes, we were driving in usmankhokhar9's car towards the old city of Lahore. After a bit of traffic clusterfuck, one stop to buy a dupatta, and a quest for parking amongst the congestion of the walled city, we were strolling through Delhi Gate towards Wazir Khan. Delicate flowering details decorate its 17th century walls, Persian tile work adorns its exterior. Its minarets rise above the old city streets like a beacon, a safe space of peace and quiet wrapped in layers of dirt and noise and lives. I've been to Wazir Khan multiple times before, but like Lahore, it's always a pleasure to return. Even cooler to come with a local, and get to watch her experience it for the first time. Locals often say they feel a bit guilty that I've seen more of Pakistan than they have, but I don't think it's so terrible. Living in a place makes you take things for granted you always assume you can just visit a place another day, then that day never comes. But so long as you make an effort to get out every once in a while when the opportunity arises, there's no need to be hard on yourself. The weekend is coming - why not take the opportunity to explore something in your area this weekend? Indus River passing through the muddy mountains of Chilas. It is said that historically, trade caravans used this area to cross to & from Chitral because the river bed is shallow, narrow and very calm. Keeping its history as a junction point, its no wonder that there are ancient rock carvings and petroglyphs etched on both banks of the river Indus, dating back to several thousand years BC. Some of these carvings are messages in some ancient script for caravans following behind the lead one Hence, the name ‘talking rocks’. While the trade caravans waited for Indus flow to stabilize, they would practice their Buddhist religion at the makeshift temples and rocks, on the bank of the river. Well for me, my Jeep got punctured here and I got the chance to fly in this area and shoot some videos as driver was fixing tyre!
