"The 🇦🇺 HMVS Cerberus, the only surviving ship of the Australian colonial navies" - (Part 6 = The ship is reclassified as a submarine tender, and the ship is sold for scrap) •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• First photo - Throughout her commission HMVS Cerberus was confined to the waters of Port Phillip Bay, southern Victoria, Australia. -------------------------------------------- Second & Third photos - HMVS Cerberus being dismantled prior to being scuttled as a breakwater at Black Rock, Victoria, Australia. -------------------------------------------- Following the transfer of six J class submarines to the RAN, Cerberus was renamed HMAS Platypus II on April 1st 1921, taking her name from the submarine tender HMAS Platypus (1917) and reclassified as a secondary submarine tender. For this role, she was towed to Geelong. Between this date and the monitor's departure from service in 1924, HMAS Protector (1884) took the name Cerberus and was attached to the training base at Western Port Bay the base in turn took the name in 1921. -------------------------------------------- Cerberus was sold to the Melbourne Salvage Company for £409 on April 23rd 1924, with the buyer to break her up for scrap. The warship was towed from Corio Bay to Williamstown Naval Dockyard on May 14th 1924 for disassembly. After the salvage company removed what they could, she was then sold on to the Sandringham council for £150. The monitor was scuttled on September 26th 1926 at Half Moon Bay to serve as a breakwater for the Black Rock Yacht Club. During her life, Cerberus never left Port Philip Bay, and never fired in anger. #The🇦🇺HMVSCerberus -------------------------------------------- #BritishEmpire #Australia #Australian #MelbourneAustralia #RoyalAustralianNavy #MonitorShip #BreastWorkMonitor #CoastalDefense #VictorianNavalForces #HMAS #RoyalNavy #BritishCommonwealth #BritishColonialTerritory #BritishAdmiralty #RoyalAustralianNavalCollege #FederationOfAustralia #NavalHistory #NavalWarfare #MilitaryHistory #History #Historian #HistoryBuff

Scenes from the Warsaw Uprising, shot either during the summer or autumn of 1944. At the very end of the video you can make out the Sturmmörserwagen 606/4 mit 38 cm RW 61 – known more commonly as the Sturmtiger – in action on the outskirts of the city. A total of only 18 of these beasts were produced before the end of World War II, and it just barely saw some combat during the final 10 months of the war. The Warsaw Uprising would be the Sturmtiger's baptism by fire, with two from PzStuMrKp (Armored Assault Mortar Company) 1000 participating, and in this video you can clearly see the power of the vehicle's 380mm RW 61 rocket launcher.

This is not political, this is for educational and historical purposes only. If you feel offended, do NOT report. Copyright: history ________________________________________ Today, 75 years ago, 18th February 1943, Joseph Goebbels (Reich's propaganda minister) gives his famous speech in the Berliner Sportpalast. The speech is simply known as the "Sportpalast" speech or the "total war" speech. The sixth army of the Wehrmacht had capitulated at Stalingrad on the 2nd of February. This was Nazi Germany's first major loss. Goebbels gave the speech because of the loss of Germany. "Wollt ihr den totalen Krieg?" (Do you want total war?) is the question, Goebbels asked the viewers. Goebbels was trying to rally Nazi Germany and mobilize it for all-out war. The German army was slowly getting pushed back from 1943 onwards. From the loss at Stalingrad, and that speech onwards, the war was becoming worse, darker and more radical. Germany started mobilising the "Volkssturm" and sent the Hitler youth to fight aswell. The death rate was becoming much higher and the allies were pushing the German army back on multiple fronts. More innocent Jews were murdered and the second world war went on an entire new level... ____________________ What's your opinion?
