Wilhelm Wundt: Why is he important? Well he's often considered the father of psychology. Wilhelm in 1879 an Institute for Experimental Psychology at the University of Leipzig, which is in Germany. This was the first laboratory ever to be fully dedicated to psychology, and it's opening can be considered the beginning of modern psychology. Why is Wilhelm so important in psychology? Well he was a key figure which removed psychology from philosophy. This is by having a structure in the analysis of the brain. It mainly focused on objective measurement and control though. In early years German philosophers and psychologists and later for Americans and British came or went to this Institute. As well as other early laboratories or Institutes were closely related to the Wundt model. This Institute focused on reaction times, and sensory processes and attention. A patient could be subjected to a light, or sound or anything that affects the senses and be asked to describe what they feel, as in the sensations. Wilhelms aim was in the same manner as chemical composition analysis, and that was to record what the people say they felt and analyze them into their constituent elements. The Wundt method is known as voluntarism, which was basically organization of the mind. One of his students, Edward Titchener, described it as Structuralism or the analysis of the basic elements that constitute the mind. Wundt argued that conscious mental states can be studied using introspection, or examination of one's own mind, and he also believed in reductionism which is that consciousness can be broken down to it's basic elements without sacrificing any conscious properties. Introspection would not be used as a fundamental tool for psychologists past 1920. So what was his contribution? Well it showed that psychology is a valid field for science. It encouraged others to continue the work and be more scientific, and continue forth in the field of psychology. Wundt also contributed to cognitive psychology because his focus was primarily on mental functioning, thoughts, images and feelings. Modern psychologists say that Wundt's methods of introspection weren't scientific.

The whale shark is a slow-moving filter-feeding shark and the largest known extant fish species.In order to eat, the beast juts out its formidably sized jaws and passively filters everything in its path. The mechanism is theorized to be a technique called “cross-flow filtration,” similar to some bony fish and baleen whales. #didyouknowthat #SeaFact #WhaleShark #RhincodonTypus Photo by: Maldives Whale Shark Research Programme ______________________________ #ice #sunny #cold #science #scientist #scientific #sea #sealover #ocean #oceanlover #followus #marine #insta #photooftheday #marinebiology #biology #swim #deep #instapic #views #model #amazing #nationalgeographic #missionblue #greenpeace #salt
