My head chef said to me yesterday, that he admires the way I don’t take any shit at work, the way that I make a big jump and do whatever I need to do to change a bad situation, to keep myself on a positive tracks. He said, “Shelly I know why you are making these changes right now, with work and people, and I admire it. You have big balls girl! You’re brave, you’re smart but you’ve got serious balls!!” He turned to the kitchen and said “you all know what you did. You’re weak mean. I’ve been feeling so good lately. Getting up early, stretching, exercising, being productive and also getting in some time for wellness. What a difference it is from last semester where I constantly felt burnt out, but I didn't even realize it until I felt refreshed. . I went to a talk on burnout and how to avoid it a few weeks ago. When we were reviewing the symptoms of being burnt out (like fatigue, irritability, depersonalization, and devaluation) I was shocked at how accurately that described how I felt. It surprised me because I think of myself as emotionally aware, yet it felt like that had totally escaped me. The symptoms as well as the stress came on slowly and not all at once. And trying to push through the burnout by working more ended up doing more damage than good. . This year, my intention is to maintain my wellness through scheduling time for work and purposeful time for restful breaks. I am expressing gratitude daily (my boyfriend and I usually say what we are grateful for over dinner) and forgiving myself for the things I can’t get done (big emphasis on that last one). Shoulder Workout! ・・・ Try this 4 exercise compound set: ・・・ 1. Dumbbell Scott Press 8-10 reps 2. Dumbbell Ahrens Press 8-10 reps 3. Side Dumbbell Lateral Raises 8-10 reps 4. This is real. Sometimes I feel like I should have this printed on cards to hand out. . A good sweat session is therapy. It makes me human again – dissolving frustrations, vanquishing grumpiness, brightening my outlook, and introducing possibilities. . I truly wish I was possessed of a perennially sweet and bubbly personality. But this girl gets prickly. 🤦🏻‍♀️ Life’s stresses can take a toll and I develop an edge. . I’m working on it. . But until I do reach my goal of maintaining an unflappably sweet disposition...there are workouts. . Thank God. 🙌
