I was reflecting on how far I've come both physically and mentally since I started StrongFit 22 months ago. ⠀ ⠀ All of this demands profound intent. I don't know about you, but for me, moving well (i.e. without pain) throughout my lifespan is a damn good reason for me to be 100% invested. ⠀ ⠀ It also demands a boatload of self-love. Yes, self-love. You can't commit to self improvement if you don't love yourself. So that means digging deep and addressing your own BS so you can get your 💩 together. Be your own damn hero.⠀ ⠀ Building a solid strength foundation takes as long as it takes. It means doing a lot of exercises that are boring and easy to dislike. I call these exercises "body broccoli" (my mystrengthacademy members know what I'm talking about) I do body broccoli every damn day. It's how I got hella strong and hella mobile. ⠀ ⠀ Here's my advice for my Strength Academy members and for the entire StrongFit Tribe regarding body broccoli exercises: ⠀ 1. Progress and accountability update ✅Currently waking up around 212 lbs and height is still just a hair under 6ft 👍 Last body fat check was 8% however, in due for an update! “Why NOT me?” . Right around this time last year I applied for the bodybuildingcom spokesmodel search. One of the first things that I was asked upon sending in my video application, was “Why this year? What made you apply this year?” My response was rather simple. “Why not me?” . For years, I’ve watched others step out of their shell and GO for it. Why not me? . For years, I’ve watched others accomplish THEIR goals and chase THEIR dreams. Why not me? . This time last year I vowed to stop convincing myself NOT to go for things and instead started asking “why NOT me”? And while I COULD think of a long list of reasons NOT to go after what I want, I realized that that list was merely a reflection of my own confidence (or lack there of). One reason to go after something is better than 10 reasons not to. . Since then, I’ve worked hard to stop limiting myself based on my own self doubt. I stopped viewing other people’s journey with envy and started viewing my OWN with confidence. I stopped making excuses for why I couldn’t or shouldn’t do something and started making lists of why I SHOULD. I stopped fearing failure, knowing that failure promotes growth. . Sure your comfort zone is cozy and warm. But, nothing magical happens there. Ever. I don’t want to live an average life. But if I only ever view MYSELF as average, that’s exactly the life I’ll live. . So step out of your shell. Stop doubting yourself. Own who you are. Your squinty laughs, your crooked smiles, your goofy quirks. Just be you, unapologetically. And GO AFTER IT. Whatever it is. You have the power. In my opinion, there are many factors that contribute to the health & obesity issues we have...but two major ones that, if fixed, can alleviate pretty much all of the other factors. . What are they? . COST: the cost of unhealthy, processed, modified and/or fast food in general is much cheaper than its healthy counterparts...and the margin isnt even close. . CONVENIENCE: as if cost wasnt enough of a factor, the convenience of purchasing/consuming "junk food" versus "healthy" food is not even close to being on the same level. It's much easier to just "grab" something and shove it in your mouth than it is to prepare, cook & consume healthy food. . If society really gave a fuck about the health of the people in it, there would be more of an effort to fix these issues. Unfortunately, we live in a society that is largely lazy and careless...and is waiting around for someone else to fix their problems. . What do YOU think? 🤔

We are heading into that time when those of us who "cut" and "bulk" will begin their bulking season. . Whether you subscribe to the philosophy of doing a "clean" bulk or a "dirty" bulk, the emphasis remains the same...being in a caloric surplus. . What one should you do? Really depends on you. Are you planning on doing more or less cardio? Are you willing to work harder to get the "extra" weight off you put on during a dirty bulk? Do you have specific goals? With certain time restraints? . How much above maintenance should you go? This ultimately will vary between individuals, but I would start off with around 500 calories above maintenance. . Which philosophy do YOU subscribe to? Why?
